The main objective of this workshop is to stimulate collaboration between the Computer Vision and Remote Sensing communities in Brazil.
Earth Observation (EO) is an ascending research area where computer vision, machine learning, and signal/image processing meet. It aims at providing information about processes occurring at the Earth surface by exploiting airborne and spaceborne sensors data . These sensors provide detailed information on materials and biophysical properties over a large part of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as varying spatial, temporal, and spectral resolutions. Therefore, Earth Observation implies the need for multiple pattern recognition tasks. It also comprises many applications, such as online mapping services, large-scale surveillance, urban modelling, navigation systems, natural hazard forecast and response, climate change monitoring, virtual habitat modelling, etc.
The main objective of this workshop is to stimulate collaboration between the Computer Vision and Remote Sensing communities in Brazil, by putting together researchers from both areas. We expect to encourage new initiatives for automated interpretation of Earth Observation data, and raise knowledge inside the vision community for this highly challenging and quickly evolving field of research with a big impact on human society, economy, industry, and the planet.
